Lily + Ben | Engagement Photo Shoot in Bath

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Wow, what happened to 2020? All these incredible weddings booked (including my own), holidays, hen-dos, honeymoon ... all gone as though someone just hit a reset button. Pretty much everyone in the wedding industry has been drastically affected by the events of this year, so I was thrilled when I could finally book a shoot.

I contacted Ben and Lily, who not only had to postpone their wedding but their pre-wedding photoshoot too, and offered to reschedule their engagement shoot soon. I thought that now would be the best time ever to do a shoot around Bath amid Covid-19 as all the shops are closed, and all the tourist spots were vacant. A rare opportunity to capture some incredible photos minus an audience of photo-bombers!

I took a collection of my favourite lenses and started to get excited, but then nervous; a sudden realisation that I've not picked up my camera for a hot minute came over me! Have I been enjoying the furloughed life of quarantine too long? Can I take lovely photos and stay a distance of two metres away the whole time? I thought, as long as I don't try and take a picture with the lens cap on I'll be fine!

Thankfully, I was not out of practice. Lily and Ben look adorable beyond words in every shot, and we smashed it from the get-go! Scroll down to see some of the photos from the pre-wedding engagement shoot.

During our shoot, we were in complete awe of the city in its unoccupied and peaceful state. For anyone who knows Bath, you'll know the hustle and bustle around the tourist spots is not too dissimilar from some areas of London. Business people are walking to train stations, tourists with cameras queuing up at all the local attractions, street stalls, people harassing you with flyers, and seagulls squawking and flapping about everywhere! Typically, a good photographer would need to spend hours photoshopping out people from the backgrounds after the shoot, but not today, it felt as though we were on a fictional movie set. The weather was beautiful, so naturally, we stopped off for some ice-cream - yes, you read right, a small ice-cream shop was open. I think I've most definitely been cooped up for too long because this was one of the best days out I've had in a while!

I'm currently taking bookings for engagement shoots and have plenty of availability up until the end of August, so if you would like to take advantage of a ghost town location near you, please get in touch.
